The K20C1 found in the 10th(FK8) and 11th(FL5) generation Honda Civic Type R is a true powerhouse. A 2.0L 4-cylinder cranking out over 300+ whp and 300+ ft-lb of torque right off of the showroom floor, this engine is nothing to sleep on. FK8 lap temp 80 (July). FL5 lap temp 65 (October). Otherwise the laps were very similar. I've got both videos posted at the bottom. Important stock vs stock differences to note: FL5 suspension in R mode is significantly stiffer, and this really did come in handy. FL5 final gear ratio is longer. Bose stereo in FL5 is better than crap in the FK8. Seats are similar, FL5 has a slight edge - both are just excellent seats! Braking feel (for street driving at least) is similar, again slightly better on FL5. Steering on both is delightful, FL5 feels slightly less talkative in normal driving, but once you load up the steering a bit through

The Type R is absolutely faster than the GR86 but there's something about wringing out the entire car that's fun as someone mentioned earlier and shifting near redline every time; the GR86 feels more raw especially with the new 2.4L the power is actually noticeable, and it is RWD vs FWD. Of the 47,000 FK8 Type Rs made, nearly 20,000 were estimated to be sold in the US. That would be somewhere near 4,000/year, here in the US…and that’s a country with 350,000,000 people…so obviously the UK doesn’t need to make anywhere near 4,000/year…hence 100s being a realistic number for them, or at least a relative number.
Car and driver has the corolla at 3187lbs vs the type r at 3174lbs. Not much, the type r how ever does have more power 315vs300 hp and more torque 310vs295. Also this test shows both the type r and corolla with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. The difference there is the size, type r is at 265 vs 245 on the corolla.
Therefore the only other V8 that is on the list is a Lexus but those cars are expensive , so the 5.0 is it. The type r I'm definitely leaning towards more because it will hold it's value more but I will definitely need a lot of patience for an FL5. Joshuab098 1991 Honda Civic DX/B18B1T • 8 mo. ago.
