I solved it thanks to a post in this thread and did so by locking the car with the fob, went to bed, got up the following morning and went straight to the passenger door and unlocked it with the key, not the fob, left the key in the lock and closed the door. This time the doors did not auto lock so I removed the key, opened and closed the door
